The Dew Tour today announced how it will evolve the events for 2011, while naming Ocean City, Md. as a new host site. Ocean City will feature the tour’s first beachfront event and will mark the official start for the 2011 tour, July 21-24. The circuit will continue on to Portland, Ore. in August, Salt Lake City in September, and return to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Dew Tour Championships and year-end Dew Cup Awards ceremony in October.
Taking a new approach to skateboarding for the 2011 season, street courses will include concrete elements and be designed in conjunction with well known skate construction companies including California Skateparks. In addition, the Tour will feature skate bowl contests.
Situated on the beach for the first time in the Dew Tour’s seven years, the first stop of the season in Ocean City provides a unique setting for the East Coast leg and will feature several new attributes including a skate bowl contest and surf competition.
“Returning to Portland, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas has set the stage for another successful season, and we’re thrilled to bring Ocean City into the mix of supportive hosts,” said Chris Prybylo, Alli Vice President of Events and Dew Tour General Manager. “With the great support we have already received from the Mayor, City Council, Special Events Department and the Tourism Board, we know this kick-off event will be a huge success.”
Each stop of the four-city circuit will feature a different mix of disciplines and competitions, exposing every market to fresh experiences. Portland will offer an additional bowl contest for skaters, while Salt Lake City presents an extended FMX competition put on in collaboration with Carey Hart. For 2011, the Dew Tour welcomes BMX legend TJ Lavin as a contributor to the overall BMX program, including dirt course designs.
The full Dew Tour schedule features multi-sport events at each of the four stops, including BMX dirt, park, and vert and skateboard street and vert. Over the course of the tour, athletes will compete to accumulate points based on their individual-event finishes, each vying for the most overall points and the title of Dew Cup champion. Raising the stakes this year, the prize purse has increased per event along with the year-end bonuses.
